“Stargirl” is the CW’s latest and greatest comic book TV show to hit home screens. The show was created by Geoff Johns and stars Brec Bassinger as the titular Stargirl.
The show focuses on Courtney Whitmore, a regular high school girl who ultimately assumes the identity of Stargirl. Armed with the Cosmic Staff of her predecessor, Starman, she leads her fellow superheroes against the evils of the Injustice Society. The show is the third CW show to bring a DC favorite to the small screen, following in the footsteps of “Supergirl” and “Arrow”, and has been going strong for three seasons.
If that isn’t exciting enough, here are a few more reasons why “Stargirl” should be on your must-watch list this season.
1. It Ties into “Arrow”
For people who loved the CW’s last hit superhero show, “Arrow”, viewers of “Stargirl” will get a kick out of knowing that Courtney’s earth is in a universe parallel to the Arrowverse. Not only is this sure to tempt you back into Oliver Queen’s world once you’re all caught up on “Stargirl” episodes, you also might want to pick up a comic or two, to see what other famous DC names Courtney has brushed elbows with over the years.
To top it all off, the characters from “Stargirl” even had a brief appearance in “Arrow”’s “Crisis on Infinite Earths” TV special!
2. The Character Has a Long Comic Book History
Newer fans of the DC shows may think that the 2020 “Stargirl” is the only iteration of this character. However, Stargirl has appeared in comics (as has Starman) since the late 1990s, and has also made appearances in other DC superhero shows such as “Smallville” and “Legends of Tomorrow”.
This latest version of Courtney is a great way for fresh-faced DC fans to get acquainted with the character, before diving into other media she’s appeared in.
3. You Can Watch the Show On Several Platforms
Telephiles will be happy to know that seasons of “Stargirl” can be seen on multiple streaming platforms. Whether you’re looking to catch up after missing a few episodes, rewatch your favorite moments, or dive into the show for the first time, there’s no need to drop cash on another streaming service.
The show can currently be watched not only on the app for “Stargirl”’s home platform, the CW; it can also be watched through HBO Max, Amazon Prime, and Vudu, to name a few.
